The Leadership Presence Assessment: Back by Popular Demand!

< 1 min read

Are you able to communicate on an intellectual and emotional level? How present are you with your team, your boss and your kids? How good are you at seeing things from your customer’s point of view?

If you’ve attended one of our workshops, read this blog or checked out our InterMission newsletter, you’ll be familiar with the concept of Leadership Presence. But how do you know you have it?

Are you able to communicate on an intellectual and emotional level? How present are you with your team, your boss and your kids? How good are you at seeing things from your customer’s point of view? Do you use the full range of communication tools at your disposal: voice, body language, emotion, story, metaphor? Do you know who you are and what you stand for and are these principles evident in your every day communication?

These questions track to the four elements of Ariel’s PRES model for Leadership Presence: Present, Reaching Out, Expressive and Self-knowing. As Ariel Group CEO, I’d like to think I’m pretty good across the board but deep down I know I’m better at some skills than others.

Personally, I think my biggest challenge is being fully present. I’m an emotional guy and wear my heart on my sleeve. So if I’ve been thrown off by a prior meeting, a traffic jam on my way to work or an argument with one of my kids, it can be hard for me to be fully present with the person I’m speaking with in the moment.
