John Reed

John is a top executive coach and trusted advisor, and the #1 proponent for stronger standards and competencies for practicing coaches to benefit and protect clients. He helps talented leaders excel further, serving C-suite executives, founders, partners, boards, teams, and other professionals. An MG100 Coaches member, three firms certify him as a Master Coach: the International Coaching Federation (ICF), the Worldwide Association of Business Coaches, and Marshall Goldsmith Stakeholder Centered Coaching.

He integrates expertise in strategy consulting and leadership psychology, as well as coaching. He has an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth and, as a business psychologist, a PhD from the University of Georgia. A Navy veteran, he founded a well-known consulting firm in 2005 and previously worked with energy and healthcare clients in the Accenture strategy practice.

John’s documented experience includes over 6000 coaching hours. His 50+ client organizations range from the Fortune 500 to private equity-backed startups in the aerospace, biotechnology, chemical, construction, consumer products, defense, education, energy, entertainment, environmental services, federal, financial services, healthcare, legal, manufacturing, not for profit, pharmaceuticals, real estate, retail, and technology sectors.

He is a Founding Fellow and Contributing Author of the Institute of Coaching at McLean/Harvard Medical School. His latest book, released in 2022, is Pinpointing Excellence: Succeed with Great Executive Coaching and Steer Clear of the Rest. His most recent recognition in 2023 is the Distinguished Psychologist in Leadership Award.

John is the 2013-14 President and a member of the Society of Psychologists in Leadership, and a member of the Society of Consulting Psychology. He serves on editorial boards of these organizations.

In volunteering, he supports children’s education, and fellow veterans in the Honor Foundation and in MBA programs at the Owen School of Management at Vanderbilt and the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.
